According to recent sources, Proton’s assembly operations in Pakistan have been stopped for more than a month, with no vehicles produced since May 2023. Assembly activities will restart once the delivery of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) parts arrives, according to sources. However, due to major currency depreciation, prices for customers are expected to rise. The actual timetable for the restart of assembly operations and the start of new vehicle deliveries is unknown.
Proton is right now dealing with difficulties since the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has not issued a letter of credit (LC) for the importation of parts. As a result, because Proton has not local the production of Saga and X70 parts, its only option is to import them for assembly and following sale.
